House Blocks DEA From Messing With Medical Marijuana

The House of Representatives voted to reauthorize an amendment that would block the federal government from intervening in state legal medical marijuana programs on Wednesday. Passed by a vote of 242-186, the amendment, which was first introduced last year, prohibits the Justice Department from using federal funds to undermine the will of the voting public. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Calif.), who along with Sam Farr (D-Calif.) offered the amendment, feels this is an issues that speaks to the fundamental nature of our rights as citizens: “Our founding fathers didn’t want criminal justice to be handled by the federal government…Our founding fathers didn’t want a police force that can bust down people’s doors. They wanted individual freedom.” A similar measuring, protecting state-legal recreational sales, failed by a vote of 206-222. The Huffington Post has the details:


Texas Says Yes to CBD, No to Everything Else

Texas Governor Greg Abbott made it clear while signing a bill allowing limited access to low doses of CBD oil that unless you suffer from epilepsy you won’t be getting any medical marijuana under his watch. This isn’t exactly news, as the Governor has already stated marijuana laws won’t progress while he’s in office, but it will bring relief to a small amount of patients who really need it. Smoking Weed Was Cool Before We Knew It Was Cool

Researchers at Washington State University have found a link between hunter-gatherer tribes who consume cannabis and a decreased prevalence of intestinal parasites. The Aka people of the Congo basin, one of the largest hunter-gatherer tribes in the world, were found to have a much lower rate of infection when they regularly ingested marijuana. Ed Hagan, who co-authored the study, points out that the Aka do not consider their cannabis use to be medicinal, and “suggests they are unconsciously using cannabis to ward off parasites.” Read more about it below:

Weekend Review Kit’s dream of sharing a joint with Paul McCartney and finally getting all of our Rocky Raccoon questions answered (why does she have so many names?) were shattered this week when the singer told The Mirror he hasn’t smoked in years. The reason: he wants to set a better example for his kids, so now he just gets a little drunk on margaritas. He still does handstands though.
